About Christine Storey

If there was ever a beacon of light, Christine (Biography) was that beacon. Everyone here at Cinequest, loved her passion for life, for people, for artists and for women trailblazers. I will never forget the time we shared together, places we traveled, and all of the laughs. Christine was always working to find ways to help other women with the work they were doing. Cinequest and I will never forget this. --Kathleen Powell, President & Co-Founder

Christine Storey Trailblazer Award Recipients

The inaugural award was presented to Jennifer Siebel Newsom, a filmmaker, advocate, and CEO of the non-profit organization The Representation Project, which inspires individuals and communities to challenge and overcome limiting gender stereotypes. The organization uses film as a catalyst for cultural transformation, so that everyone, regardless of gender, race, class, age, sexual orientation or circumstance, can fulfill their human potential.

After early work in Africa and Latin America to help women entrepreneurs create their own socially and environmentally responsible businesses, Jennifer pursued acting, yet was dismayed by the representation of women in Hollywood. In order to drive real change, she stepped behind the camera—writing, directing and producing the award-winning Miss Representation, which challenged the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women. Recognized by Newsweek as one of the "150 Fearless Women Who Shake the World,” Jennifer’s continued works address such topics as the redefining of “masculinity” in our culture, and rape in the military and on university campuses.

Christine would be extremely proud that Jennifer is the first recipient of this award. They had the opportunity to meet on several occasions.
